Orthodontics

Straightening is not only about appearance
Badly placed teeth wear unevenly and clean badly.
Overlapping teeth trap plaque where neither brush nor floss reaches, which makes crowding a cause of decay and gum inflammation as much as a matter of looks. A displaced bite loads chewing onto a few teeth, which wear and crack before the others.
Alignment is also preparation: uprighting a tooth before crowning it, or opening the space of a missing tooth before an implant goes in, avoids compensating with ceramic afterwards.

Braces or aligners
One asks nothing of you, the other asks a great deal.
Braces, metal or ceramic, work continuously and treat cases aligners cannot: large rotations, root movements, marked discrepancies. They show, and they make brushing harder.
Aligners are discreet and come out to eat, but everything rests on wear time: twenty to twenty-two hours a day, failing which the plan comes off the rails. The choice follows the case first and preference second — not the other way round.

Twelve to twenty-four months, on site
The one treatment that does not fit into a stay.
Orthodontic treatment needs regular appointments over twelve to twenty-four months: adjusting, changing trays, checking the teeth are following. That rhythm cannot be compressed.
It is the one treatment on this site that cannot be settled in one or two trips. It assumes living in Batna, or being able to come back regularly — something to settle before starting rather than six months in.

Retention
The part nobody budgets for, and the part that decides the result.
Teeth drift back towards where they started as soon as the force holding them stops. A wire bonded behind the front teeth, a night-time retainer, or both, hold the result over years.
Retention is quoted separately from treatment. It is the line people forget when comparing two quotes, and the most common explanation for treatment having to be done twice.
Orthodontics — Frequently Asked Questions
- Is orthodontics only for children?
- No. A tooth moves at any age, the mechanics are the same. In adults the state of the gums and bone matters more: periodontitis has to be stabilised before starting.
- How long does treatment take?
- Twelve to twenty-four months in most cases, with regular check-ups. The length depends on how far the teeth have to travel, not on the appliance chosen.
- Can it be done from abroad?
- With difficulty. Unlike the other treatments, this one needs regular appointments over one to two years and does not fit into one or two stays.
- What does it cost?
- From €800 for braces, metal or ceramic, and from €700 for aligners, with consultation, imaging and check-ups included. Retention is quoted separately, after examination.
